Attend a show in person to really understand what happens. I didn't before I competed, and I had no idea what to do during awards presentation.
-
Prep can be time consuming and tiring, but also very rewarding. Remember that you chose to compete, and try to keep a positive attitude even when you are tired.
-
Competition lean is going to be leaner than you ever were in the best shape of your life. Even when you feel so tiny and lean during prep, you probably have to keep pushing harder to actually get stage lean.
-
Getting your makeup and hair done professionally for show day is a great idea. Contest promotors usually have a sponsored tanning and hair/makeup service. I highly recommend using them, at least until you have a good idea of how to replicate the look on your own. Stage makeup is not "going out" makeup.
-
It IS possible to prepare for a show and be successful at your career at the same time. You just need to manage your time very well and choose carefully how you spend your free time.

You're going to want to get comfortable posing in the gym in between sets! You may have to cross some barriers with your confidence but it will pay off.
